Understanding Agents
Agents are AI workers in your org chart. They take tasks from the board, run them autonomously, and deliver results to your inbox or as completed tasks.
Agent status indicators
On the task board and in the Agents panel, each agent shows a real-time status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟢 Active | Agent is running one or more tasks right now |
| ⚪ Idle | Agent is online and available, no active tasks |
| 🟡 Waiting | Agent is blocked, waiting for human input |
| 🔴 Offline | Agent is not available (check with your admin) |
What agents can and cannot do
Agents operate within strict limits set by your admin:
- Can only use approved tools — e.g. a field sales agent can search your ERP but cannot send emails unless that tool is explicitly enabled
- Cannot exceed their budget — agents have token and cost caps; when they hit a limit they stop and notify you
- Cannot approve their own work — any action flagged as requiring approval always waits for a human
How agents pick up work
The dispatcher automatically routes tasks to the best-matched agent based on:
- The task's tags and assigned role
- The agent's skills and toolset
- The agent's current load (concurrency limits)
You don't need to manually assign tasks unless you want to route to a specific agent.
Asking an agent to do something
The simplest way to give an agent a task is to create a task with a clear description. The dispatcher will route it to the right agent.
TIP
Be specific in your task description. Instead of "Fix the report", write "Update the weekly sales summary report for week 27 with the Acme Ltd numbers from the ERP and send it to the sales team."
